Following is part of “our story.”
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
Several years ago Monnie and I began to respond to “nudges” from the Holy Spirit. These nudges told us that we needed to leave the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC and relocate to Brunswick County. We felt called to simplify our lives, let go of our self-determination and self-reliance, and trust God to lead us according to his plan. The “evidence” of that call was a persistent feeling of being out of place and a discomfort with so many aspects of our material lives in Maryland.
We took action when God provided us with the opportunity…selling a business, selling our home, packing our belongings, and moving. Many from our old home church prayerfully wished us the best but were humanly skeptical of how we could make such a radical change; leaving comfortable employment and financial security, moving from an affluent community, relocating four school-aged children, and leaving our close by, extended family.
As we “unplugged” from the wealthy, materialistic culture of the big city we found the transition difficult at times. We have learned to live with less…a lot less. Yet when we “let go and let God”, less becomes more. Without the comforts of secure income, we have learned to rely on prayer. Without the material complications of urban living, we are able to truly appreciate the blessings of love, kindness, good health, and joy that we receive daily.
We have found great freedom in our new lives because we are living in faith and obedience to God. We “know” that this is so because of how we have been blessed by others in this community. We know that if we remain obedient to the daily nudges of the Holy Spirit we will have no fear of an uncertain future. We remain faithful because we are confident in God’s love for us.
Our prayer for you is that you too will truly feel God’s love and are able to see God’s plan for your life.
